About this app

About Canadesk

Canadesk is a Montréal consultancy. We build small Zendesk apps that do one job, run inside Zendesk, and need no server or account of ours.

What it does

When a customer writes in about a charge, the answer is in Stripe. This app puts it in the ticket. Open a ticket and the sidebar looks the requester up in Stripe by email address, then shows:

  • Subscriptions — product, quantity, base price, renewal date, and any cancellation already scheduled.
  • Payments — amount, date, status, card brand and last four digits, and how much is already refunded.
  • Invoices — paid and outstanding, with amounts, due dates, and links to the hosted invoice and the PDF.
  • Customer record — email, phone, addresses, currency and balance.

A warning at the top names trouble before an agent scrolls for it: a declined card, a subscription Stripe could not collect, an invoice still owed.

What an agent can do

Each action stays off until an administrator turns it on.

  • Refund a card payment, in full or in part. The panel shows what has already gone back and what is still refundable, and refuses more.

  • Cancel a subscription at the end of the paid period, and undo that while it is still pending.

  • End a subscription immediately. This has its own separate setting, because it cannot be undone.

  • Copy the customer's billing portal login link into a reply.

Every completed action becomes a private note on the ticket: which agent, what amount, and the identifiers Stripe returned. If a request is interrupted, the app says so, locks that payment or subscription, and checks with Stripe rather than guessing or sending it twice.

Privacy and data

There is no Canadesk server and no account to create. Nothing the app reads or writes passes through us.

  • Read from Zendesk: the ticket ID, the requester's name and email address, the agent's name and email address, the app's own settings, and a Stripe customer ID user field if you configure one.
  • Sent to Stripe: the requester's email address, to find their customer record. For a refund or cancellation: the payment or subscription ID, the amount, the reason chosen, and metadata holding the operation and ticket IDs, so the action can be traced.
  • Written back to Zendesk: a private note on the ticket recording the action, and the Stripe customer ID onto the requester's user field if an agent asks.
  • Stored: nothing outside Stripe and your own Zendesk account. Unresolved actions are kept in the agent's own browser so an interrupted refund is never repeated; that record holds identifiers and amounts, never card data.
  • Sent anywhere else: nothing. api.stripe.com is the only host the app may contact, and Zendesk enforces that. No analytics, no tracking, no third parties.

Your Stripe key is stored as a Zendesk secure setting, inserted by Zendesk's proxy, and never reaches the browser. Use a restricted key: with read-only permissions, the write buttons never appear.

설치 방법

Before you start

You need a Stripe account and permission to create API keys in it.

Create a Stripe key

  1. In Stripe, go to Developers → API keys → Create restricted key.
  2. Give it these permissions: Customers read, Subscriptions read and write, PaymentIntents read, Charges read, Invoices read, Refunds read and write, Balance read.

  3. Products read and Billing portal read are optional. They only improve what the app can show.

  4. Copy the key. It starts with rk_.

Set up the app

  1. Paste the key into Stripe restricted API key below. It is stored as a secure setting and inserted by Zendesk's proxy, never by the browser.
  2. Leave the refund and cancellation switches off for now.

  3. Save, open a ticket from a customer you can find in Stripe, and check that their billing appears in the sidebar.

Turn on the actions you want

The app shows the refund and cancellation buttons to everyone who can open it, or to nobody. It cannot tell one agent from another, so decide who should have them before switching them on.

  1. Allow agents to refund payments — full and partial refunds of card payments.
  2. Allow agents to cancel subscriptions at period end — reversible while it is still pending.
  3. Allow agents to cancel subscriptions immediately — separate, because it cannot be undone.

Optional

If you already have a Zendesk user field holding a Stripe customer ID, enter its key in Stripe customer ID user field key. Agents can then pin a requester to a particular Stripe customer, which helps when someone writes in from a different address than the one they pay with. Leave it blank to match on email address alone.

Start with a test-mode key if you would rather look around first. The app reads which mode the key belongs to and labels itself accordingly.
