Unlock the power of interactive messages

Interactive message structures like quick replies, carousels, and other visual message types have increasingly become an expectation when crafting engaging and effortless interactions with bots. Until now however, once the user is connected to a support agent these powerful message components have no longer been available, replaced instead by plain-text conversation.

This app enables the creation and management of 'Messaging Templates' that unlock the ability for agents to harness the power of these interactive and engaging media types in human-to-human messaging conversations

Note: This app will require you to have an active Sunshine Conversations license (included in Suite Professional plans and above). If you would like to learn more about purchasing a Sunshine Conversations license, then please speak to your Zendesk representative who will be happy to help.

A template says a thousand words

Flexible template options include:

Built-in messaging types

  • Carousel - display up to 10 items, each consisting of an image, content (title and description) and a button link - displayed in a horizontally scrollable element.

  • Image - display an image or gif above a message and up to 10 clickable button links.

  • Replies - a message with up to 10 clickable reply buttons that enable the end-user to quickly communicate back to the agent from a set of pre-defined answers.

  • Link List - a message and up to 10 clickable button links.

  • File - clickable attachment

Apple Messages for Business types (must be activated for you account)

  • Quick Replies - a message with up to 10 clickable quick-reply buttons that enable the end-user to quickly communicate back to the agent from a set of pre-defined answers. Similar to the built-in Replies message type but for Apple Messages for Business.

  • Rich Links - send Apple App Clips, or a message with an inline image or video.

  • List Pickers - lists of selectable items for the user to chose from.

  • Time Pickers - list of selectable time slots for a user to choose from.

  • Form Messages - multipage interactive flows to collect information from the user

  • Authentication Requests - built-in authentication flow.

  • Custom iMessage Apps - powerful custom iMessage app

Install the app through the Zendesk App Marketplace and follow these quick and easy steps to get up and running:

  1. Provide authentication credentials for the app to use securely

  2. Have an admin create at least one messaging template for your support agents to use

Agents can now search, preview and use the templates you've created in their messaging conversations through the companion app located in the ticket sidebar.

Provide authentication credentials for the app to use securely

This app uses Sunshine Conversations (Zendesk's Messaging platform). In order for the app to interact with this platform you'll need to take the following steps to generate a special value that needs to be included in the secure Encoded credentials setting when installing the app:

  1. Create a Sunshine Conversations API Key. You can create a Conversations API Key in the Admin Center of your Zendesk instance (Admin Center > Apps and integrations > APIs > Conversations API > Create API Key). Once created, you will be supplied with values for Key ID and Key Secret which you will use in the next step.
  2. Create a new value by separating the Key ID and Key Secret with a colon. This value should take the format: YOURKEYID:YOURKEYSECRET. For example, if the Key ID generated in step 1 was app605465_ and the Key Secret was 7qQ2R0RpWbM5muEr56, the output would be app605465:7qQ2R0RpWbM5muEr56_
  3. Base64 encode the value you created in step 2. Base64 encoding is simply the process of transforming a value into a long string of plain text (known as an exchange format). This can be done with any number of free online utilities (for example, this website). In the example above, app605465:7qQ2R0RpWbM5muEr56_ becomes YXBwXzYwNTQ2NTo3cVEyUjBScFdiTTVtdUVyNTY=
  4. Add the result to the secure **Encoded credentials app setting**. You'll be prompted to add this value when you install the app from the marketplace.

Have an admin create at least one messaging template for your support agents to use

Create your first template! You can create and manage templates for your agents to use by navigating to the Interactive Messaging Templates app in the Navbar on the far left side of the Support interface.
